What exactly is LED?
LED stands for light-emitting diode. These are semiconductors that convert electrical energy into light energy. LED lamps were initially used primarily in signaling technology and only found their way into our households in the course of the 2000s following technical developments. They have now replaced traditional incandescent lamps.
What are the advantages of LED lamps?
Higher energy efficiency
LED lamps generate light much more energy-efficiently than conventional lamps. This is mainly due to the fact that much more of the incoming energy is also converted into light. Modern LED lamps achieve values in the range of 80 percent here. For comparison: typical incandescent lamps primarily generate heat and only convert significantly less than 10 percent of the incoming energy into light.

Modern LED lamps, on the other hand, have a service life of around 30,000 hours and are therefore a significantly more worthwhile investment.
LED lamps are also the more sustainable solution for modern lighting. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that they have to be replaced far less frequently due to the service life already mentioned and accordingly produce less waste. On the other hand, they contain fewer harmful substances than traditional fluorescent lamps, which use mercury vapor, for example.

In contrast to incandescent lamps, LED lamps are operated with direct current instead of alternating current. For this reason, there are no fluctuations in brightness and no flickering with them.
