They are literally a hot kitchen trend. They are considered flexible and healthy. Air fryers can now be found in more and more households - but is it worth buying? We give you all the important information about the kitchen aids you are looking for and also provide delicious recipe ideas for the holidays.
What is a hot air fryer?
Most of us have probably seen a classic deep fryer - either at home, in a restaurant or at the snack bar. The idea is simple: oil is brought to the boil using a heating coil. Food is then fried in this oil; you could also say they are fried.
A hot air fryer can do without this oil bath and instead deep-fries, cooks, roasts or grills with a stream of hot air. If that sounds like a fan oven to you, you are not completely wrong. In terms of their basic functionality, hot air fryers could well be described as small-format ovens. However, that doesn't mean that you can just as easily use a normal oven instead.
For example, hot air fryers work much more efficiently. Since less cooking space has to be heated up, they are ready to use much faster. In addition, they usually reach higher temperatures, are better sealed and, thanks to the practical frying baskets, are easier to use than an oven, which is usually installed close to the floor.
The big advantage: little or no oil
From crispy to crispy, a hot air fryer is in no way inferior to a classic deep fryer when it comes to fresh French fries, for example. The highlight: It can be prepared according to personal taste with just a tiny amount of oil - or without it at all. In fact, the oil is not required for the actual preparation, but primarily serves to give the food the familiar taste that we know from deep-frying. Since small amounts are sufficient for this, foods prepared in this way contain significantly fewer fat and calories.
Thus, a hot air fryer makes your menu healthier and your everyday life significantly less stressful. Classic deep-frying with oil is not only unhealthy, it is also more time-consuming. It takes a long time to clean the smeared deep fryer. In addition, the used oil must be regularly replaced and properly disposed of. This in turn means in most municipalities an additional walk to the recycling yard, since cooking oil must not be disposed of in the sink or toilet and only small amounts should end up in the residual waste. The oven is also much more difficult to clean than a hot air fryer, whose cooking basket is ideally simply placed in the dishwasher.
Lots of options, even over the holidays
In addition, a hot air fryer shines with a significantly greater culinary variety. At least we haven't baked bread and apple pie, grilled steaks or gently cooked vegetables in a classic oil fryer. In a hot air fryer, all of this and more is no problem at all. From juicy potato casseroles to grilled chicken, there are no limits to culinary creativity with a hot air fryer.
